Looking for a fun way to celebrate Le monde Francophone and les Jeux Olympiques 2024?

Engage your junior students in exploring La Francophonie 脿 travers les Jeux Olympiques.

Participate in the 新澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 and Forum de la Francophonie's FREE mascot design competition for Years  5 and 6, and Years 7 and 8. Design a mascot representing a French-speaking country at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and present your design in a video.

Objectives

  • To provide learning opportunities for students to deepen their knowledge of the diversity of the Francophonie world by exploring a French speaking country.
  • To provide an opportunity to engage with the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
  • To provide an opportunity for students to speak French through a meaningful and authentic experience.
  • To encourage and promote the learning of French as an essential part of the school curriculum.

Timeline

 Friday 3 May Closing date for registering your school

Monday 10 June Deadline to submit videos (please note, no late entries can be accepted)

Competition Categories

You may enter FOUR students per category in the following categories:

  • Year 5 and/or 6
  • Year 5 and/or 6 (Bilingual Schools
  • Year 7 and/or 8
  • Year 7 and/or 8 (Bilingual Schools)

Task description / steps

  1. Once your registration is received, you will be sent an email of confirmation with your allocated country.
  2. Students will research the French-speaking country assigned to them in order to provide information about it in the video.
  3. Students will then create a mascot which captures the essence and culture of the allocated French-speaking country (drawing, sketching, painting, crafting, digital art, 3D, collage, papier m芒ch茅, mixed media, ...) to represent that country at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
  4. Finally, students will produce a video to present their design as if they were a famous athlete from their assigned country. For example, they could pretend to be Kylian Mbapp茅 introducing the mascot for France and also share information about the assigned country.

French language content

  • Students should try to use as much French as possible.
  • Students are encouraged to use sentence structures suitable to their level of French language acquisition.
  • Students are encouraged to receive support from their teachers and peers but should refrain from using online translating software.

Ideas / suggestions

Let your imagination run wild as you craft a mascot that embodies the essence and culture of your allocated French-speaking country. Here are some ideas on what could be included in the video. These are only suggestions. Students can be as creative as they want!  The following range of elements are examples of what can be included:

  • Physical appearance
  • Colours
  • Clothing
  • Accessories
  • Personality
  • Symbols
  • Traditional costumes
  • Flag
  • Name
  • Backstory
  • Theme
  • General information about the country
  • Information about the allocated country's participation in the 2024 Olympics

 Competition Rules

  1. This is a free competition open to students enrolled in Victorian schools from Years 5 to 8.
  2. The video produced should be at least 2 minutes long (maximum of 3 minutes) and must be an original piece of work by the student/group of students. A maximum of 4 students per group.
  3. A total of 4 videos per year level category can be entered per school. (Student names should not be mentioned in the videos)
  4. Videos must be chosen and submitted by the classroom teacher in charge of the participating school.
  5. Once each entry is lodged, it cannot be altered. Incomplete or late entries will not be considered.
  6. The 新澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 reserves the rights to close entries at any time.
  7. The panel's decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  8. By participating in the competition all competitors give their consent for the submitted videos including the name of the school to be posted on 新澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 and Forum de la Francophonie and French Embassy social media platforms and associated websites during Bastille Day Festival in July.

Please note: Students' names will remain anonymous

Winning videos / prize giving ceremony

  •  There will be up to 3 winning videos per category. Winners and prizes will be announced by 新澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 and Forum de la Francophonie on Friday 28 June.
  • Prizes will be donated by 新澳门六合彩开奖记录资料 and the French Embassy of Australia. Date of the Prize giving ceremony will be communicated to schools.

Entry process

Register your school by Friday 3 May. Send an email with the details below to mascotdesign2024@gmail.com. 
Once your registration is received, you will be sent an email of confirmation with your allocated country. At the beginning of Week 3, a link will be emailed to the teacher in charge to upload the videos by the closing date Monday 10 June.

  • School name
  • Teacher in charge's name
  • Contact details (Phone number and email)
  • Year level categories for each video (please indicate if your school is bilingual)

Judging Criteria - Criterion of all equal weighting

Mascot Design

  • Originality: The uniqueness and creativity of the mascot design.
  • Creativity of the Design: The artistic and imaginative elements incorporated into the mascot.
  • Representation of the French-Speaking Country: How well the mascot represents the culture, traditions, and identity of the allocated country.

Video

  •   Quality of the description: The clarity and depth of the description provided in the video.
  •    Creativity (Music, Props, Costumes, etc.): The creative use of additional elements to enhance the presentation.
  •    Accurate use of French: The correctness and precision of French language usage (vocabulary & grammar).
  •    Clarity of expression: The clarity and coherence of the presentation.
  •    Ownership of work: The authenticity and originality of the student's work.

Le Phryge

Le nom de la mascotte de Paris 2024 est Phryge Olympique. Il repr茅sente le petit bonnet phrygien traditionnel. Le nom et le design sont symboles de libert茅 et repr茅sentent des personnages all茅goriques de la R茅publique fran莽aise.

Le Phryge Olympique a la forme d'un bonnet phrygien. La vision de Paris 2024 est de montrer que le sport peut changer des vies. Le Phryge Olympique porte les couleurs bleu, blanc et rouge, les couleurs du drapeau de la France. Il y a le logo dor茅 de Paris 2024 sur son ventre. Le tissu de la mascotte est du feutre rouge et des chaussures de basketball rouges.

Le Phryge saute de joie car il est content de participer aux Jeux Olympiques de Paris.

La France

La France est un pays d'Europe de l'ouest. La capitale s'appelle Paris. La population de la France est de 68 millions de personnes. 脌 Paris, il y a la tour Eiffel, le mus茅e du Louvre et une rivi猫re importante, la Seine. Les Fran莽ais parlent fran莽ais, une langue un peu diff茅rente de l'anglais. Ils aiment manger des croissants et des baguettes. En France, il y a beaucoup de ch芒teaux, de mus茅es et de beaux jardins. Les 茅coles sont diff茅rentes de l'Australie. Les 茅l猫ves ne portent pas d'uniformes. Les Fran莽ais aiment aussi le football et le fromage !


La France aux Olympiques

Beaucoup d'athl猫tes fran莽ais et fran莽aises participent aux Jeux Olympiques de Paris. Les athl猫tes fran莽ais repr茅sentent 35 disciplines sportives. 脌 Tokyo, la France collecte 33 m茅dailles et termine huiti猫me pays au monde.

Voici Miraitowa. La mascotte olympique de Tokyo 2020 s'appelle Miraitowa. Ce sont les mots japonais "mirai" (futur) et "towa" (茅ternit茅). Ce nom repr茅sente un futur plein d'espoir 茅ternel dans le c艙ur des gens du monde entier. Son style est traditionnel et futuriste. La mascotte repr茅sente l'ancien et le nouveau. Sur sa t锚te, Miraitowa porte le logo des Jeux de Tokyo 2020. Il a de grandes oreilles pour bien entendre et des grands yeux pour bien voir. Pour les Jeux paralympiques, la mascotte est rose et blanche. Elle ressemble 脿 Miraitowa.

Le Japon aux Olympiques

Le Japon participe aux Jeux Olympiques depuis 1912. Les Japonais sont bons en judo et en karat茅. Aux derniers Jeux Olympiques d'茅t茅, le Japon termine troisi猫me derri猫re les Etats-Unis et la Chine.

Le Japon

Le Japon est un pays de l'Asie avec des montagnes, des temples et la capitale Tokyo. Les gens parlent japonais et mangent des plats sp茅ciaux comme les sushis et les ramens. Ils ont des traditions comme la c茅r茅monie du th茅 et le festival des cerisiers en fleurs. Les Japonais sont respectueux et leur culture est pleine d'histoires int茅ressantes. Le Japon est un pays super 脿 d茅couvrir !
